We Made It!

2 days of driving, 2 days of unpacking and we’re about as moved in as we’re going to get. We’re staying in Jesse’s room at his parent’s place, so it’s been a struggle to fit all our things, but we’ve got all the things we should be needing over the next few months (?) unpacked and put away. Amazingly we even found room for a small computer desk and a bookshelf from Target! We don’t have internet up there yet, but apparently we’ll be going to get a wireless router pretty soon.

I’ve been attempting to get used to the area by doing the driving at least half the time when we go out and I’ve even gone to the gym every day since we’ve been here. This morning I’ll be going to my first spinning class at the new gym!

The job search hasn’t actually begun on my part yet… I’ve been wanting to get the room unpacked before starting. But now that things are unpacked (though the bookshelf isn’t put together yet), hopefully I can start to look today.

All in all, things are going well. We’re safe and getting settled… more later.

First post, last full day in San Diego…

I realize that this is a rather odd time to decide to make my first post, but oh well. The truth of that matter is that I need something to do to take my mind off of packing and trying to sell my stuff for a few minutes… that and Nicole is getting a tad annoyed that she’s had the site set up for me to post for so long without me doing anything about it =)

As you’ll come to notice, I’m definitely nervous about posting on a site that has actual people who read it (social anxiety for the win!). I semi-started a blog a while ago and was quite content with the fact that nobody was reading it. Strange, I know, since the point of a blog is to write things for others to read as well as for my own benefit. But I’m here now, and I guess that’s all that matters.

Currently, I’m stressing about finishing all of my packing. I’ve got most of it done, but the things that are not done are pretty big: I have to have my desk (which is heavy as hell) and my bed moved out of here pretty shortly. Someone is supposed to buy my desk, but hasn’t gotten back to me yet. He better hurry up… I’m only going to be here for 6ish more hours. My bed will be easier; my aunt is buying it to put in a guest room. So basically, most of everything is done except for the things that are stressing me out. I guess I’d better get back to those.

Sometime in the next week (when I’m not unpacking, trying to find a job, exploring the beautiful Northwest, going to see Batman Begins, etc.) I’ll try to post some basic info about me in the About Jesse section. But for now, I’ll just say hi and leave it at that. Please be gentle!

T-5 days

This Saturday Jesse and I are leaving San Diego to move up to Portland.

Packing is going pretty well. I’ve been doing a little every day (or every few days) and I’m down to just clothes and toiletries. But let me tell you, it takes time to pack clothes. I have so many and a lot that I don’t wear, so I’ve been trying to get rid of some. Today my packing included trying on and throwing out old underwear (I finally bought some new ones I like), trying on and throwing out old bras, and trying on and throwing out some tank tops. I think I’m finally down to the clothes that I’m keeping, though it’s possible that a few more things may make it into the trash or donate piles.

As I’ve gotten things packed and can see what sort of volume I actually have, I’m pretty sure that everything is going to fit in the Camry and the Expedition we’re renting. Of course, it all depends on how flat the seats in the Expedition fold and how well the bikes fit, but I’m hopeful. We’re shipping all our books and DVDs via Media Mail (cheap!) through the USPS since that’ll get rid of 4 boxes that are very heavy.

It’s weird to be leaving this place where I’ve grown up. I think it’s going to take quite a while for it to sink in that I’m actually moving, not just going on vacation for a while. Any guesses as to how long it’ll actually take to sink in?
