Temping

I have yet to find a job. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been looking… these things just take time. But now I am finally signed up at the temp agency. In fact, tomorrow is my first assignment. I’ll be working on mailings over at Nautilus. Fun stuff. But at least I’ll be making some money and actually doing something out of the house with other people. Tomorrow will definitely be the first of what I assume will be at least several adventures in temping. Wish me luck!

Keeping Busy!

band, originally uploaded by delirity.

Jesse and I have been keeping fairly busy with all the different summer events happening in the area. Yesterday we went to the Vancouver Farmer’s Market to get lunch (Bratwurst on a stick) and some of the most delicious cookies I’ve ever had. Then we headed down to Camas Days, the local annual event. I picked up some books at the library sale there, we tried a piece of chocolate dipped cheescake, and watched a bathtub race (in addition to looking at all the booths). Then we headed home to get a quick nap and pack a picnic dinner before the 1860s baseball game that was being held at Fort Vancouver. Everyone was dressed up in period clothing, a brass band was playing old patriotic music and the baseball game was played according to the rules of 1860 (Jesse could probably explain them… all I can say is that it was very different). We left the game a few minutes early to head over to downtown Vancouver for an outdoor showing of Jurassic Park.

Can you tell we’re really trying to take advantage of all the free, outdoor events they have in the summers? Thank goodness for the “Out and About” section in the Friday addition of the local paper. It has all sorts of events in the Vancouver and Portland area, as well as around other parts of the state.

It’s Relative

Here in Portland the temperature has gotten to about 95 for a few days, mainly being in the 85 range. You wouldn’t believe how much people complain. It probably won’t even get over 100 for another month, and even then only for a day or two. It’s all relative. Though I suppose I’ll be the one complaining when the cold weather hits! At least I’ll be able to add a million layers of clothes!
