Changes to the Holiday Season

Holiday Cards
As much as I hate it, this is the year that I’m taking some people off my holiday card list. People that I haven’t heard from. People who never responded to any of my contact. This is going to be really hard for me, but I’ve got to do it… this year I make the break. It’ll save me time and money and eventually, I’ll probably forget about those people meaning that it will save me even more time. The ball will now officially be in their court… I have enough other people who do respond that I should be writing to instead. Considering I always write a lot in each card, I’ll probably be starting mid November… a lot later than I used to start when I was in college… but seeing as my schedule is much different and my time is more my own, I think it’ll still be plenty of time to get it done!

Holiday Baking
In the past I’ve always made tins of cookies for family members. I might still do this, depending on what my mom wants to d for gifts, but this year I’ll also be making Hoska for my family. Plus, I plan to make half loaves for some friends. It’ll be a busy busy baking season, but it should be fun.

Happy Halloween!

We had a busy weekend. Saturday I went to spinning class, registered my car in Washington, Jesse and I went and registered at Bed Bath and Beyond, and we went and ate dinner at The Kennedy School before we watched March of the Penguins in the theater there. Of course, in the afternoon I found time to make some chocolate Halloween cookies (we didn’t have anything cool to decorate them with). Here’s a picture!

We found a cookie cutter in Jesse’s mom’s stash that we can’t identify. The closest we can guess is that it’s supposed to be donald duck. Here’s a picture of the cutter and the cookie rotated in several directions… any guesses?

Sunday was filled with all things Halloween. I made the pumpkin cake I was talking about last week… though this time I drizzled orange frosting on top instead of sprinkling it with powdered sugar. It doesn’t look as good as I had hoped, but it still tastes fantastic! We also carved pumpkins on Sunday. I made a witch like I had seen on Martha’s site and Jesse and his family broke out the millions of pattern books they have. I also made a bunch of pumpkin seeds flavored with garlic salt and taco seasoning. They’re sure tasty! Here are the pumpkins Jesse and I carved… it was the best picture I could get with my camera.

I can’t wait for all the cute kids in their costumes tonight! Yay for pumpkins, scary music/sounds, costumes and good old fashioned fun!

It’s Almost Halloween!

I’m excited for Halloween. Last year I got a pumpkin shaped cake mold that I never got to use. I’m going to make a cake to bring in to work on Halloween… it’s going to be great. A few weeks ago I did a trial run of the cake which you can see in the picture. Is it funny that I’m totally excited to make the cake this weekend?

I can’t wait to see all the cute little kids come trick or treating. I really missed that during college.

I Knew I Loved Italy…

I’m a big fan of Italy… mainly because it’s filled with beautiful history. But now I’ve got a more substantial reason to love Italy: Rome just banned goldfish bowls (animal activists say they’re cruel), made regular dog-walks mandatory, and is providing legal recognition for those who provide food for all the stray cats. You can read more about it here.

In other news, I am no longer officially a Californian (only at heart). I got a Washington drivers license on Saturday, so I’m now a Washingtonian. Of course, due to needing another piece of paper, my car is still from California. Hopefully that will be rectified by Wednesday or Thursday evening.

Tissue Color

I took a tissue out of my tissue box at work and now the next tissue is a different color. They had all been white, now they’re a beige color. Should I be concerned?!
