2005 Wrap Up

I’m sick. And I’m tired. And there’s a lot of work to be done, but I feel that I need to write a small wrap up for 2005 since it’s been a big year. Funny that my year began and ended about the same (sick, tired and a lot of work to be done), but the middle really didn’t feel that way at all.

Highlights from the year:
Jan 2005 – Sinus surgery. It sucked, it really did… but I’ve been much healthier since. Too bad I didn’t really feel 100% recovered until mid February.
March 2005 – Jesse proposed and the wedding planning began.
April 2005 – Thesis finished!
May 2005 – Graduated from Pomona. Spent the rest of my time packing all my things and preparing for…
June 2005 – Jesse and I moved to Camas, WA.
September 2005 – I finally found a job after months of searching and being very very bored.
November 2005 – Drive through the snow to Joseph, OR for Thanksgiving. Followed by me getting sick.
December 2005 – Mom came to visit for a few days around Christmas. Followed by me getting sick.

Throw in a whole bunch of baking, organizing and wedding planning and you’ve got my year. It’s been pretty hectic. The beginning of next year will certainly continue to be hectic (since we’ve got all those little details for the wedding that still need to be planned) and I’m sure that it will continue longer than that if and when we wind up moving out of Jesse’s parents house. Fortunately, I’m pretty sure that 2006 can in no way be more hectic than 2005, so it will be a nice change of pace as we really settle into our lives up here in Washington.

What a Delinquent

It’s hard for me to believe that I’ve been so busy recently that I haven’t had much time for blogging. I always thought I was really super busy in college, but apparently I’m busier now.

Last week (except for Tuesday when I hurt my chin which now has a purple spot on it) I worked from home and spent 8 hours a day entering journal article bibliography information into EndNote, then alphabetizing all the articles. I managed to squeeze in 4 cycling classes, 2 yoga classes and 4 weights workouts (good thing too because I’m not feeling 100% this week). You’d think I’d still have time left over, but actually there wasn’t a whole lot! I had quite a few things that needed taking care of after I was done working (and on breaks!). And, over the weekend (which I thought would be oh so relaxing) I cooked Sausage and Feta Handpies (from the new Martha Stewart Baking Handbook), went Christmas shopping (twice!), did laundry, got trapped in the house due to our mini blizzard, and I’m sure some other things too because there wasn’t nearly as much down time as I expected!

Yesterday I wasn’t sure I’d make it in to work because the roads were still somewhat snowy and icy from the day before. But, I managed to make it in, get a bunch of work done, pick up Jesse’s Christmas present (though I have to go exchange it because I realize now that I got the wrong thing), and purchased some wire baskets from the Container Store for work.

My to do list at work is getting quite large (with a lot of things that MUST be accomplished before the end of the year). We’re also starting up a big project in the beginning of next year, so its nice to know that I’ll have plenty to keep me busy. In fact, the only reason I can write this is because I’ve got some downtime while I’m configuring computers (while they install & reboot).

My mom is flying in for the holidays on Friday, so I get to go pick her up after work Friday. I’m looking forward to getting to spend a few days with her (though right now she’s sick!), though I know it’s going to fly by (I still can’t believe we’re this close to Christmas already!).

Apparently things are just always going to feel really busy! I know the holiday season is making things at least a bit more hectic right now, but I’m pretty sure I’d be quite busy even without the holidays. Good thing I enjoy it!

Ouch

I’m having one of those days. I thought the day started out ok, but then I managed to give myself a little blood blister on the tip of one of my fingers. Then I wheeled a cart of boxes from my car into work and ran over my little toe getting the door open. As I was taking the off the cart they were strapped to, the strap hit me full force in the chin. And I still have to go for a TB test later today. Please please please, don’t let anything else happen.
