Where Have I Been?!

I can’t seem to get myself back into regular blogging. I’m busy at work all the time. And once I get home I’m busy with making dinner, getting lunches and things ready for the next day, and generally trying to keep things in order … all while trying to fit in some time for relaxing. It’s busy for me. And Jesse is in the busiest quarter ever (and keeps taking on more and more fabulous activities which makes it even worse). We’re lucky we see each other before we pass out at night.

So, what’s so busy?

Work:

  • The Mini Living Laboratory – I’m in charge of our network of 8 homes in the community “lab”
  • The BRP Study – I’m working on both the technical (a little) and clinical side of the BRP study which will grow to about 250 people in the next year
  • In addition to several other projects: ADCS (we’re providing computers for neuropsych testing and medtrackers -our cool pillboxes- to several centers around the country)

Home:

  • Cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning (I can’t help that I like to have a clean, tidy home!)
  • Cooking (I’m the resident grocery shopper and chef)
  • Baking (birthday coming up? I’ll be making cookies… in fact, I even make cookies to bring in to work, so perhaps this should go under work as well…)
  • Bills (I’m also the CFO of our household)

My Sanity:

  • Trying to hit the gym 5 days a week
  • Meet some new people (thank you to Meetup and the wonderful group of women I’m going to start doing things with)
  • Relax occasionally – this includes the 9 (eep!) tv shows we watch, trying to see movies occasionally and going shopping!

Fun Things For Our Apartment

We signed ourselves up for some fun things at the new apartment…

  • The Sunday Paper – mainly because we like to look at the ads and I figure that we can probably save more than $2.00 by using the coupons I cut out
  • High Speed Internet – A luxury we can’t live without, though we could live without the bill, but it’s allowing us to play with the next item…
  • Internet Phone Service – We signed up with SunRocket for internet phone service. We haven’t recieved the kit yet, so we probably won’t be ready to use the phone til next week, but we’re crossing our fingers it’ll work well. It’s got lots of cool features and we figure this is probably the best time in our lives to try it out since most people call our cells anyway.

We also have been buying fairly real furniture as opposed to the cheapest thing around (aka cinderblocks and boards). I want to feel like an adult since I technically am one. Jesse says he’s not an adult yet since he’s still in school, but I figure with one working adult and one adult in grad school we should be allowed to live in an apartment that doesn’t look like it has college students living in it. Granted, I need to get some things up on the walls so that it really doesn’t look that way (and figure out how to make the living room look not so empty – never expected that to be the problem!), but we’re getting there…

What it Looks Like When it Snows Here…

My friends all seem concerned for my safety when I tell them that it snows up here. Here’s a picture (and if you click the picture it’ll take you to more) of what it looks like when it snows. The roads don’t get very much snow sticking on them, so you don’t need chains unless you go in the mountains (yea, those of us who grew up in San Diego really don’t understand snow at all), but I do drive around with studded tires in the winter so that I can deal with the icy hills we have on occasion.

Our New Apartment

Jesse and I are almost completely moved in to our new apartment. The picture here is of our new la-z-boy recliner that we purchased and if you click the picture you can see more random pictures of the apartment. They were taken several days ago and we’ve made much more progress since then, but they’ll at least give you a glimpse of our blue carpeted apartment.

I am so thankful I was able to take the week off from work so that we could really get things moving at the new place. If I hadn’t, I have no idea how long it would take us to get situated!
