November 30: The End of NaBloPoMo

I’ve managed to post each of the 30 days of November. It’s been fun, but I’ll now be returning to my less regimented schedule.

And now, here’s a list of things I’m thinking about:

  • Why my homemade horchata didn’t turn out and if I’m willing to try again
  • Rice-milk hot chocolate is just as good as cow-milk hot chocolate, plus it doesn’t bother my tummy
  • I wish the last few dishes in the sink would do themselves
  • Once the dishes are done I’ll be able to get my second-to-last batch of ice cube turkey stock into freezer bags and finish up the stock ice cubes… which then leaves me with another pot to wash
  • I’m mentally ready for December and the Christmas/New Years holidays
  • Jesse brought in my Christmas boxes and vacuumed the apartment, so I can start decorating today
  • I haven’t yet made a Christmas card list for the year
  • I’ve only purchased 2 presents so far (and not the “complete gift” for the recipients) – part of me is wishing we weren’t doing gifts of consumer goods this year
  • My laundry is almost done!
  • I really should change the sheets today, even though I don’t really want to – but I know it’ll be really nice if I do
  • The 4 day weekend really flew by

November 29: The Santa Clause

This year the Christmas music started way too early. Christmas items were being sold long before Thanksgiving meals were planned. Now that we’re past Thanksgiving, I’m willing to consider Christmas – though we won’t do much as far as decorating until at least next week (I like to enjoy my holidays one at a time thank you). But tonight we watched The Santa Clause and boy did I enjoy it. I thought it was too early for holiday movies, but I was wrong. You know you love it too.

November 28: It’s the Little Things (aka Thank you Garlic Jim’s)

Today we tried the gluten free pizza at Garlic Jim’s and it was good. Even though there isn’t one too close to us (about 30 minutes away – which doesn’t work out so well for take-out which is our only option), I’m really happy to know that there’s gluten-free pizza in the area, even if don’t feel like making pizza at home.

Thank you Garlic Jim’s. I can once again purchase pizza without feeling sick afterward or getting red spots on my face.

November 27: Happy Thanksgiving

First, an entertaining article from Mental Floss (a pretty awesome magazine): Why we eat what we eat on Thanksgiving – CNN.com

Second, thank you to everyone involved in my life. I appreciate the love, kindness and support of all of you. Have a great thanksgiving.

November 26: Spices

Today I made a pumpkin pie to take to Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow over at the in-laws. While I was going through my spices I was dreaming of the day when I can organize them nicely and have them in matching containers. Of course, that led me to looking online for good ideas. I was thinking that finding containers that actually fit in a drawer would be nice… and then I found this (click the picture to link to the full description and how-to):

I may just have to start buying up these containers now… they’ll fit on my shelves or in a drawer… and then someday when I have a home that has some sort of pantry I’ll really be able to get things set up.

This is perfect too because I love buying my spices in bulk. I’ve bought a lot of them from Winco and New Seasons (and Fred Meyer), but in my tour de spice on the internet today I discovered Penzeys Spices and realized that I could really do with some refills of spices that are harder to come by (like smoked paprika for the most awesome soup ever).
