And I’m darn proud of it. It might not be a big deal to some people, but for me it’s an amazing accomplishment and I’m very proud of myself. I’m planning to do more in 2009, starting in January – especially now that I’ve got some clothes that should work for running outdoors in the 40s/50s! Wahoo!

What’s in store for 2009?
With the end of the year quickly sneaking up, I’ve been thinking about what next year will bring. I’d like to make some goals for the year, but many of the goals are things that aren’t really possible to list concretely now since much of next year will feature major changes (Jesse disappearing to SD for 6 months, starting a practice / working for a doc up here, me working my day job and “volunteering” at a startup). I’m going to keep thinking about it and come up with something very concrete (with a step by step plan) that is possible to aim for.
Do you have any goals for 2009?

On Giving
At the beginning of December, I decided to spend the month focused on giving. I think I’ve done fairly well, though I can certainly improve – particularly by increasing the number of small things I do every day! I would encourage everyone to spend some period of time focused on giving – it can help you to be more creative, meet new people, and learn about yourself in addition to helping others.
One thing I discovered while participating in The One Dollar Give is that who you choose to give to is important. There have been some charities over at The One Dollar Give that I wouldn’t choose on my own. In some ways I appreciate that because I’m learning about charities that I didn’t know about – but it’s also made me realize that giving is a very personal thing and that in the future I would prefer to make the choice myself.

A 2 Person Christmas
For Christmas (and most holidays) we usually spend time with the family. Last year we headed to San Diego to spend time with my mom and grandpa, this year we were going to stay local and go over to Jesse’s parents house (+ other family members). It’s just what we do.
This year, because of the large quantities of snow we’re having, we’re going to spend Christmas together in our apartment. Odds are pretty good that this will be the only year we spend Christmas by ourselves. Yesterday, we broke out the yaktrax and hoofed it over to the little shopping area near us (cost plus, borders, best buy) to pick up supplies for our 2 person Christmas party: chocolate covered espresso beans, Bailey’s, ginger ale, tortilla chips, salsa, spaghetti sauce,…
We plan to spend our holiday watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas music, and eating some pretty yummy food (considering we can’t quite make it to a grocery store). Maybe Jesse will even laugh his way through playing a video game with me. Or we’ll play a rousing game of battleship. And hopefully, the snow will be wet enough for us to go build a snowman!
I hope everyone else is able to spend Christmas with all their loved ones as planned! If you have any other fun Christmas suggestions for us, let me know!
