My New Craft Desk

Since my last depressing post, I’ve been taking small steps toward making my home a place where I’m comfortable once again. Since I spend a fair amount of time in my office and had a big empty area where Jesse’s desk and computer had been, I thought that would be a good place to start. It’s much girlier than it was when Jesse was here (he had anatomy posters hanging on the walls!) and much more open. I’m hoping that having a place to do some crafts and writing will inspire me to get back to it.

My next project is the bedroom. We’ve never had anything on the walls in there and I think it’s about time to change that. I’ve picked up some fabric that will go with the duvet cover and curtains and I’ll be framing that like I did with the pieces above the craft desk.

A Lot

I feel like I have a lot to say – but it doesn’t know how to come out. I know I have a lot to do – and I’m having trouble doing it.

I got to spend several days with Jesse over the weekend, which was wonderful. But still, I came home to find all this stuff.

How does one start to deal with all this stuff? Do I clean my apartment til it’s spotless? Do I throw out or give away all the things I don’t use or want? Do I paint my walls (what goes with blue carpet?!) and rearrange my furniture? I’m thinking maybe I need to start with some walking… and a little cleaning each night.

But really… any ideas as to how to make a dent in the big mess of stuff (and really, most of it isn’t really stuff that’s in my home) that I face every time I come home are welcome. Maybe once I start to figure it out I can be fun again in more than just a get lost in a book sort of way.

(Sorry I had to share. I should be feeling better after a really nice walk tomorrow evening.)

Oh Sigg, Why Did You Mislead Me?

I love my Sigg water bottle. I bought it about a year ago when there was such a commotion about BPA. It replaced my old faithful Nalgene that I’d had for years. It’s now dented and scratched on the outside – a testament to the places it’s gone with me.

Now I’m feeling somewhat mislead about my love of my Sigg. The company came out recently to say that previously their bottles didn’t leach BPA. Now, bottles produced after 2008 actually are the ones without BPA in them at all.

I can’t decide if this makes me want to get rid of my existing water bottle. I guess my options are:

  1. Stick with the existing (old lining) Sigg water bottle.
  2. Buy a new (BPA free lining) Sigg.
  3. Buy a completely different brand of water bottle.

I think that for now I will probably stick with my existing bottle. Getting rid of it is wasteful and buying a new one will be costly.

I’m very frustrated at SIGG for not being more upfront about this last year. I trusted them with my health and the health of my family members. I appreciate that they have been working toward BPA free bottles for years, but currently I just feel very misled and frustrated. If only I didn’t drop things so often and need something that doesn’t let me spill on myself constantly – I’d switch to drinking only out of mason jars!
